Camping Le Capeyrou at Beynac-et-Cazenac, Dordogne
Kick off your flip-flops and dip your toes into the Dordogne River, or float around the heated swimming pool and gaze up at Beynac?s hill-top ch?teau. Or if you want to explore authentic Europe then the medieval town of Beynac, with its inviting bakeries and authentic restaurants along the narrow streets, is only a short stroll away. The atmosphere at Le Capeyrou is civilised and tranquil; the setting of the large spacious pitches, surrounded by hedgerows, is picturesque and relaxing. But there is lots of fun to be had to. You can fire some darts or have a game of snooker in the site?s friendly bar or take a canoe or boat trip out on the river.
Biscarosse at Biscarosse, Gascony
Le Domaine de Gascogne resort offers a superb 18 hole golf course, activities including horse riding for all levels and a stunning beach near by. The little ones will love the "Aventure Parc", a leisure and nature park at Biscarrosse-Plage approximately 6 km away. There are 17 hiking trails and 100km of cycle paths nearby, perfect for day trips. The apartments are pleasantly laid out around the golf course, many with attractive open views of the green, swimming pool or pine forest.
Les Grottes de Roffey at Sarlat, Dordogne
Les Grottes de Roffy is a family favourite. It has three pools in an excellent complex which is the park's centrepiece and the facilities here are good all round, with tennis as well as a children's play area. There is also a charming and reasonably priced restaurant which is so good it's even enjoyed by the locals, despite the presence of many first rate alternatives nearby. Pitches here are on a series of terraces, some with views over the idyllic countryside that surrounds the park and the rural setting also offers many delightful walks amongst the patchwork woods and fields.
Lacanau 4 Sun at Lacanau Ocean, Gascony
Aquitaine's soft and attractive countryside is all warm, wooded valleys and sun-dappled villages. At the coast, the pulse quickens slightly, with surfing, cycle tracks and swimming – in the sea, or the sheltered freshwater lake at Lacanau - on offer. You're never far from a vineyard here, too. Take a bottle back to your holiday home – a wood clad cottage or apartment near the relaxing pool. 14 kilometres of fine, golden sand means that, even in high season, Lacanau's beach has a generous amount of space to go around. Ocean, lake and forest combine to offer plenty of healthy, outdoor pursuits – whether you want to try kite surfing (hold on tight, or you could end up in America!), horse riding or golfing – and, in Lacanau, the gentler arts of shopping, eating and socialising are practised with equal enthusiasm. Within its core of pretty whitewashed, red-tiled buildings, Lacanau hosts a surprisingly vibrant array of casinos, nightclubs and bars to keep you active until the early hours.
Saint Avit Loisirs at Le Bugue, Dordogne
Set in beautiful woodland with fabulous views of the Dordogne countryside, St Avit Loisirs is one of the premier parks in the region and holds 5 red tents from the Michelin guide. The buildings are of beautiful honey-coloured stone where you'll find a shop, bar with a large terrace overlooking the pool and a restaurant serving local specialities. The modern facilities include a swimming pool complex, tropical-style indoor pool, crazy river and jacuzzi. The sports facilities are outstanding including recently built golf driving range and putting green, plus quad biking, tennis, football and gym amongst others. Six kilometres away is the busy town of Le Bugue.
Le Paradis at St Leon, Dordogne
Le Paradis, it is set amidst France's loveliest countryside, close to the meandering rivers of the Dordogne. The park has superb facilities that includes two large swimming pools, surrounded by attractive trees, flowering shrubs and tennis courts. The park's focal point is the lovely little courtyard with its popular bar and restaurant. In high season, an animateur arranges a variety of sports events, soirees, weekly discos in the bar and daily canoe or kayak trips on the river, which flows right past the park.
Sylvamar at Labenne Ocean, Gascony
Camping Sylvamar is part of the Yelloh! Village chain of campsites. The excellent facilities, located away from our accommodation, include a lagoon style watermark complete with waterslides and lazy river, overlooked by the modern restaurant and bar terrace. It is just a fifteen minute walk or cycle to the fine sandy beaches of this area, and water sports facilities are widely available. Whilst there is plenty to do at this well-maintained campsite, the Les Landes forest is perfect for cyclists. Campsite rules are strictly enforced for the benefit and comfort of all guests. The facilities on this park are second to none, especially the superb aquatic area with its three pools, lazy river and triple waterslide. About 900m away, you can learn to surf and body board in the spectacular Atlantic waves. There are dozens of activities for kids of all ages, as well as entertainment, cantered around the bar-restaurant every night in high season, with the promise that all will be quiet after midnight. And the park owner is keen for all rules to be respected for the benefit and comfort of all guests. Beyond the park, Labenne offers endless forest roads and cycle paths; while the town itself has a splendid outdoor market, two petting zoos, as well as the lovely Marais d'Orx nature park.
Le Ruisseau at Biarritz, Gascony
As well as its fantastic location, this park offers a wide range of facilities, making it popular with young and old alike. Here you can play tennis, enjoy the attractive outdoor pools and waterslide or try the indoor pool across the road in the newer part of the park, where there is a recently added spa complex. There's also a gym, sun bed, sauna and a spacious children's play area. With its hillside location overlooking a small lake, it also offers exceptional views of the Pyrenees. There are many reasons to stray from the park too. The famous beaches, body boarding, surfing, shopping and restaurants of wonderful Biarritz are just 8km away; with Bidart and Bayonne right on your doorstep, and Spain and the Pyrenees also within easy reach.

The emplacements are located amidst woodland, with some shaded by tall trees. There is plenty of space for relaxing at the side of the swimming pool, while children can enjoy the water slide and paddling pool. The friendly bar and takeaway are set in a poolside marquee, also the location for the evening entertainment in the height of summer. Children will also enjoy making friends at the playground. The island is a haven for cyclists ? so why not hire bikes on site and explore the island's many cycle paths.

You'll find that the park's own grill restaurant makes the ideal place to eat too, when you're not at the weekly barbecue, or occasional disco held in high season. Delightful Bordeaux and bustling Bayonne are also both within easy reach by car.

Camping le Ruisseau is a well equipped, top quality family run site. Situated in the Basque country and close to the sea, the majestic peaks of the Pyrenees rise in the distance. The pitches here are set in shady oak land and the site boasts its own lake, which is ideal for a quiet spot of carp fishing. And as well as all the other attractions of the Dordogne, both Salignac and Sarlat are just a short drive away.
