The oak beamed bar and excellent restaurant at Camping les Granges is housed in old ivy clad buildings; in total contrast to the superb modern pool complex with its swimming pools and three water chutes. The bar terrace, overlooking the pool, is an ideal spot for listening to live music in high season and for sipping one of the delicious cocktails on offer. The active can hire a bicycle or put on their boots to explore the many walking and cycling routes.
Le Vieux Port at Messanges, Gascony
Situated right on the Atlantic coast, and awarded the prestigious La Clef Verte award, Le Vieux Port enjoys direct access to a long, sandy beach, backed by sand dunes, which shelves steeply into the lively waves. Le Moulin de Paulhiac at Daglan, Dordogne
The facilities at this park are very modern, including a fabulous pool complex with three slides, covered pool, impeccable wash blocks and an excellent take-away and restaurant. Le Moulin de Paulhiac has a beautifully restored watermill that welcomes you at the entrance and is a rural park with large grassy pitches set amidst the dappled shade of walnut, oak and apple trees. The owners also organise activities in high season, which include popular canoe trips. This is the real heart of the Dordogne too, with rolling wooded hillsides, sleepy, honey-coloured villages, crumbling old farmhouses and castles galore to discover.
Moliets 4 Sun at Moliets et Maa, Gascony
The holiday village at Moliets has to be one of your first choices if you're looking for an active family holiday set in tranquil surroundings. At the forest's edge is Moliets-Plage, the 3km wide beach resort, developed sensitively, and with great charm. Les Grottes de Roffy is a family favourite. It has three pools in an excellent complex which is the park's centrepiece and the facilities here are good all round, with tennis as well as a children's play area. There is also a charming and reasonably priced restaurant which is so good it's even enjoyed by the locals, despite the presence of many first rate alternatives nearby. Pitches here are on a series of terraces, some with views over the idyllic countryside that surrounds the park and the rural setting also offers many delightful walks amongst the patchwork woods and fields.
Le Paradis at St Leon, Dordogne
Le Paradis, it is set amidst France's loveliest countryside, close to the meandering rivers of the Dordogne. The park has superb facilities that includes two large swimming pools, surrounded by attractive trees, flowering shrubs and tennis courts. The park's focal point is the lovely little courtyard with its popular bar and restaurant. You're also just a ten minute drive away from France's largest fresh water lake where more water sports are available, and slightly further afield are famous vineyards including Pessac and Medoc - perfect for wine lovers. There's also organised entertainment, plus popular bar, restaurant and take-away, while just a few minutes away?at Hourtin Plage there are plenty more bars and restaurants to sample.

Soleil Plage enjoys a superb setting that is perfect for a family holiday, lying on the banks of the gently flowing Dordogne. It has two small beaches, both situated on one of the loveliest stretches of the river, which are favourite spots for both swimming and canoeing. Sheltered in the calmer waters of the St Jean de Luz bay, the water sports and activities here are a degree or two more chilled out than at the larger resorts to the north. Ciboure offers all the exhilaration for those who like to take the air, or even take to the waters, in relative peace and tranquillity. On land the accent is on quiet enjoyment, Ciboure is calm compared to its busy fishing port neighbour of Saint Jean-de-Luz, but there is still plenty to keep you busy.
